ICDP were employed to design two five-star holiday cottages in Ardlui on the banks of Loch Lomond. The properties are contemporary interpretations of a traditional Scottish countryside dwelling featuring traditional proportions and building elements such as natural stone walls, slate roofs and solid fuel stoves. These were combined with modern features such as open plan living, cooking and dining spaces, high performance glazing and a super insulated building envelope reducing energy usage and encouraging sustainability. Furthermore, large glazed openings invite views across the loch to the East and Stob nan Coinnich Bhacain to the West encouraging visitors to explore the natural environment which surrounds them. The dwellings were granted planning permission by Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
